On February 20, 2023, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) issued a new notification on the "Launch of the CBSE Reading App" for students in classes 1 to 8. This initiative aimed to increase reading enjoyment and encourage kids to read.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 highlights the value of having libraries with sufficient resources and recommends circulating top-notch children's books to encourage the habit of reading across the country.

To accomplish the goal of boosting reading enjoyment and inspiring children to read, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduced the CBSE Reading Mission in 2021 (Circular No. ACAD-82/2021). With this project, teachers and kids have access to a large selection of excellent, cost-free English and Hindi children's books as well as supplemental materials for classes 1 to 8.

Via CBSE Reading App, students, teachers, and academic institutions will have access to a sizable digital library of reading materials from nursery through grade eight that have been compiled from a variety of publishers in text, audio, and video forms.

By offering a well-designed, scalable, and adaptive one-stop platform, the CBSE Reading App supports the New Education Policy 2020 aims of recognising the need to promote higher-order abilities including creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, visualisation, and idea development.
