Product Description

Smrutigandh (An autobiography by Lalita Vaidya in Marathi)

Smrutigandha is a memoir of the familial lifestyle and culture prevalent 60 years ago, which is in contrast with that of the present day. It is based on the life events of the author, Mrs Lalita Vaidya. She survived a heart attack in the year 1998. This life altering event prompted her to pen down her life’s experiences as a child, teenager and eventually as an adult. The book was confined to her relatives till the year 2006, after which it was decided to widen the book's reach, so as to influence everyone who is in need of inspiration.

The book comprises of many interesting chapters of her life like 'Mrutyuche Darshan' in which she narrates her close brush with death. In the initial pages of the book, she clearly states that it is not her attempt to gain any type of publicity. 'Death is inevitable, but at the same time, don't shy away from the inevitable reality of life' is one of the lines that highlights this entire chapter beautifully. Her experiences at various stages of life, like the birth of her younger brother and her stay in a village called Nangal are conveyed through chapters titled, 'Prasad's birth' and 'Our days at Nangal'.

The book concludes with her poems that adhere to a number of themes along the lines of humanity, seclusion and one special moment. Each poem is an attempt to depict her perception of life. One of the poems is 'Manuski', wherein she talks about her faith in humanity and elucidates upon an encounter of a blind girl and a cobbler, who helped reinstate her faith in humanity.

The objective of this book is to introduce and acquaint youngsters with the kind of interpersonal relationships and obligatory bonds that made up the social milieu about 60-70 years ago. Through her lucid writing style, Mrs Vaidya is able to achieve that objective effortlessly.
