Foundation Course for Company Secretary (better known as CS) is a course of eight months tenure and this course is supervised by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (also known as I.C.S.I.). The cs foundation course serves as a fundamental level of education which is necessary for becoming a Company Secretary (CS) in future. This course has a mixed training technique which encompasses postal tuitions on one hand and attending optional coaching lessons on the other. The required study guides and materials are given away to the students at the very outset, after the admission procedure is over. This course covers a wide range of essential topics of discussion and subjects which include corporate law, labour law, legal aspects related to tax and taxation procedure, auditing, accounting, financial analysis and so forth. CS Foundation Course Eligibility

According to the cs foundation exam eligibility criteria, any candidate can officially sit for the CS Foundation programme examination after the completion of the 12th board examination. Therefore, the minimum company secretary qualification eligibility to appear for the exam is 10+2 or any equivalent examination. Students from all streams are eligible, apart from the ones with Fine Arts background. Students who have appeared for the 12th board examination this year are also eligible to sit for this exam. Such students are supposed to show their 12th pass mark sheet or certificate within the next six months, if they qualify the exam.

In order to appear for the examinations, the aspirants have to first register themselves under the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (I.C.S.I.). Once the registration number is generated, this number remains valid for the next three years. Therefore, respective candidate has to qualify the exam in the next three years, otherwise he/she will not get any more chances. The procedure of registration can be undertaken any time of the year as the portal is always open for candidates. Usually the examinations take place in the months of June and December every year. So the candidates have to make sure that they are registering themselves for each exam at least nine months prior to the month in which the exam is supposed to take place. Because, as already discussed once, this course can be undertaken in the minimum time period of eight months, not less than that.

CS Foundation Syllabus 2019

ICSI has introduced a new syllabus for the foundation programme of CS. The syllabus has been changed under ICSI notification no. 4 in the year 2017. According to this new revised syllabus, the course comprises of four main subjects (papers). These four papers are –

  2. Business Management, Ethics and Entrepreneurship
  3. Business Economics
  4. Fundamentals of Accounting and Auditing

CS Foundation Course June Examination 2019 – Exam Dates and Details

The dates for the examination that is going to be held in June in this year are duly announced. ICSI CS Foundation Examination 2019 is scheduled on June 8th and 9th of the present year. As usual, the exam is going to be conducted by ICSI. The candidates willing to undertake the examination in 2019 can start applying for it from the fourth week of February, 2019. The applications are being filled-up and submitted on the official website of ICSI (website link: icsi.edu). The examination is computerised and will take place online. The questions will be in the form of MCQs.

CS Foundation Exam Pattern 2019

The CS Foundation exam pattern is quite simple to understand. As once mentioned, the questions will have multiple choice answers and the candidates are supposed to choose the right option from the given choices.

The exams will take place over two days. The total time allotted for each day’s exam is an hour and thirty minutes (total 90 minutes). As the syllabus consists of total four papers, each candidate has to undertake the exam for two papers in a single day. The exam for the 1st and 2nd paper will be held on the same day, this exam consists of total 100 questions (MCQs). Similarly, the exam for the 3rd and 4th paper will be held in a single day, consisting of 100 questions in total. The best part is that there is no negative marking in this exam.

The CS Foundation Exam can be undertaken in English or in Hindi. The candidate can choose the language in which he/she wants to write the exam. However, this option is not available in case of the topic of Business Communication.

The Final Verdict

The admit cards will be available for the students 15 days prior to the scheduled exams dates. It will be available to be downloaded in the official website is ICSI. The students can log in with the help of their registration number and download the admit card. It has to be noted that no hard copies of the admit card are sent to the students individually. Therefore, if you are sitting for the CS Foundation Examination this year, then make sure you get a copy of your admit card downloaded in the due time. Another essential point is that the candidates are supposed to carry their Student Identity Card with themselves, in order to get an entry to the examination centre, failing which might result in terrible consequences. So do not forget to carry the identity card with you on the day of examination.
